myspace...sigh

Here is the thing- I don't have a myspace account yet, not because I am a horrible luddite who thinks these kids should get off my lawn, but because I don't really want to be found by people and co-workers online. It is just one more thing I would obsess over insanely, spend HOURS and HOURS coming up with a perfect list of my favorite bands- it just seems like a lot of work. For example, I made this profile almost three years ago and I mention that I like Cat Power. I was clearly trying to be cool there. I am not the world's biggest Cat Power fan, or even a moderate Cat Power fan. Those stupid sign up questions make me feel paralyzed with fear...but wait! Do I really say what I read, letting everyone in on my love of bodice rippers? Or do I make up some sort of love of 19th century literature (hey, I can go to Wikipedia to get the plot of Middlemarch). Ugh. Plus, I just don't want people to know about me. If people I went to high school with me can't find me, all the better.

Also, while I am ranting about why myspace is not for me, does this whole exercise remind anyone else of that Chinpokomon episode of South Park? Where the only way to save the kids from the thrall of the Chinpokomon is for the adults to start loving the Chinpokomon....

library 2.0 thing

Wow, its been a long time since I posted anything to this blog. Let's just ignore the first post, shall we?

As for wikis, how did we ever function without them? I use Wikipedia to find out book series, album recordings, and random information about evil diseases I might have. As for library related wikis, the one I use most often is put together by YALSA-

I like the fact there is a place to find book recommendations or lists. I think book lists in wiki forms make a ton of sense. The more people who contribute to a book list, the better the list will be. I also like that the wiki has official information about YALSA and the different programs they are involved with.

what I am reading

I belong to two different book groups, one that mainly reads fiction and one that only reads teen fiction. For the first group we just finished reading Cats Cradle which I had never read before. How can you not love a religion that is all song in Calypso songs?
For the teen book group we are reading the Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. I know, the cover is pink and its about a princess. Really, though, its a great book that has a lot more weight to it then people think. Try it out.
