myspace...sigh

Here is the thing- I don't have a myspace account yet, not because I am a horrible luddite who thinks these kids should get off my lawn, but because I don't really want to be found by people and co-workers online. It is just one more thing I would obsess over insanely, spend HOURS and HOURS coming up with a perfect list of my favorite bands- it just seems like a lot of work. For example, I made this profile almost three years ago and I mention that I like Cat Power. I was clearly trying to be cool there. I am not the world's biggest Cat Power fan, or even a moderate Cat Power fan. Those stupid sign up questions make me feel paralyzed with fear...but wait! Do I really say what I read, letting everyone in on my love of bodice rippers? Or do I make up some sort of love of 19th century literature (hey, I can go to Wikipedia to get the plot of Middlemarch). Ugh. Plus, I just don't want people to know about me. If people I went to high school with me can't find me, all the better.

Also, while I am ranting about why myspace is not for me, does this whole exercise remind anyone else of that Chinpokomon episode of South Park? Where the only way to save the kids from the thrall of the Chinpokomon is for the adults to start loving the Chinpokomon....
